OK
so in some of these pages you will see a section that is called
Myspeak. You have more than likely linked to here from one of these
entries in the main site. What is Myspeak?
Easy.
Myspeak
is just the way that I tend to chat through the forms when I am
teaching them. The words are not always an accurate description
of what you are practicing but when in the classes you will know
exactly what I am talking about because I have qualified myself
at the time. I am reproducing those commentaries here because many
of my students use the net to get a bit more information on the
forms and they know how useless I can be at times in remembering
to bring some written revision notes with me to classes.
(The notes do get all squashed and wet while I'm riding the bike
anyway you understand?)
If you find that these commentaries are confusing then just ignore
them. Sometimes they make sense, most of the time they won't.
Example
of how they come about:
In
the Small San-Sau there is a movement which sweeps up the hand and
claps the palms together before striking with the back-fist / back-palm
into the opponents lower rib area.
As
this is all performed as a flowing continuous block/sweep/strike
it seems that the commentary should reflect this. Simply stating
'clap upward, step forward, and strike' didn't do it for me so I
ran the whole thing together to get 'clapitty-up wallop'. I have
found that when you talk it through as you do the movement it sort
of pads the thing out and encourages you to go with the flow of
the movement.
OK
a note to all those other instructors and students who I meet at
workshops around the country. Yes I know it sounds stupid but people
remember the stupid stuff, face it, next time you see me at a workshop
you are going to take the piss about this, but it will only prove
me right in a way, you will have remembered it.
